so, musicness...

the essence of my life, it 'tis. i listen to almost everything, but most emphatically no country! if you were to borrow my iPod, you would find everything from muse to death cab for cutie to hollywood undead to kanye west. yah, that's me. my taste in almost everything being eclectic, it shows the most in my music, i believe. my list of top 25 most listened to is a mish-mash of owl city, switchfoot, linkin park, hollywood undead, john mayer, and muse - oh, and the strokes. must not leave out my love of nineties rock, inspired in me by my musical soul mate. (you know who you are, dearest.) as i cannot get to sleep without music, most of the songs are quiet, peaceful sleepy songs or heavy metal/driving rock songs - my sleepy time music types of choice.
currently, my obsessions are muse, john mayer (his new album is actually pretty decent), the temper trap, august burns red, and any nineties rock (i.e.: the strokes, spoon, metric, red hot chili peppers, the wallflowers, etc.) muse is the epic perfection of all things musical, and i love them wholeheartedly. john mayer - despite my guess that he's a complete ass in person - is amazing; if i could play guitar like anyone, it would probably be him. he's inordinately talented, and he has definite songwriting skills. the temper trap is just amazing as a whole. i first heard "sweet disposition" on a friend's recommendation (said musical soul mate's rec.) and fell in love with them completely. my current favorite song by them is "fader." august burns red is a little too heavy for some people, but i love my scream-o. they're amazing angry music, but at the same time their lyrics have real depth. and then, of course, there's my nineties rock. i love me some spoon/the strokes/the wallflowers/switchfoot/metric/phoenix/weezer/blind melon, etc.
and, recently, one of my very good friends turned me on to disturbed. i'd never really thought to give them a chance - weird for me, given my love of that genre - but her recommendation was definitely accurate. disturbed's musical sound is the perfect mix between heavy and melodic rock, their lead vocalist has an amazing voice, their drummer is (predictably; heavy metal bands seem like they draw all the best drummers) phenomenal, and their lyrics are thoroughly thought-provoking.
well, that's it for my music musings for now.

I would venture to say that Mayer might be a really awesome person. I'd like to meet him. He seems very chill.

i've heard and read too much about him. he's an ass. i have zero respect for him as a person, even if i have oodles of respect for him as a musician.
